Yes it is true that the greater metro region of Sao Paulo is home of up to 19 million people and its concrete jungle of high-rises is often a point for derision.
But nothing quite rivals plans for Vitra, a crystalline dreampiece by world-renowned designer Daniel Libeskind.
Libeskind is the mastermind behind the emotive architecture of Berlin’s Jewish Museum, One World Trade Centre in New York and London Metropolitan University. “Optimism, vibrant culture and dynamic possibilities…”
Vitra will be his first project in South America and is set to house 14 deluxe apartments ranging from 565sqm to 1145sqm in Itaim, a central neighbourhood popular with ex-pats and the upmarket.
Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of design, with solar heating, locally-sourced materials, lush landscaping, stormwater reuse and energy consumption given priority
“Brazil is a country that I always admired. It has spectacular natural beauty and urban areas, but more than that, has people able to show the world its ability to share humanity,” Libeskind says.
“It was in this spirit that I’ve designed a residential tower that expresses this optimism, vibrant culture and the dynamic possibilities of a truly pluralistic world.”
Vitra will house just one customised apartment per floor, plus a two-floor penthouse.
